What also surprises me is how many people turn a blind eye to something like this, or even domestic violence in general, because of the attitude of, "It's not my business".
My aunt once told me that if I did not say or do something when I saw things like that then I was just as bad as the person doing it. I have always remembered that and spoke up when I saw it. And believe me, I have not only seen it, but lived it and wished more than anything someone would have stepped in to help me when I was too afraid to help myself.

I agree huni, but sometimes it is so well hidden we dont know its happening.

I had a experience when i was small but i knew it was wrong and actually said NO!! BUt my best friend didnt with her step father but we were so young we didnt really know what was going on til we grew up, she actually took him to court two years ago after nearly 30 years, he said he had been waiting for the police to knock his door and pleaded guilty"!!!

Oh I totally agree that it can be well hidden and that the very young don't always know how to ask for help.
I just think that sometimes we are so focussed on other things that we don't see the signs. Not saying that we are bad for that. But in families we should know each other well enough.
I know someone that had been raped by her father for years. The signs were there and even her mother had a feeling about it, but never pursued the matter further. If you know someone well enough to know something is wrong then it should be pursued at all costs.

Sounds like the mother was/is just as sick as the father, not to mention in total denial for whatever reason. That is just awful. :(
